London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan has reignited his long-running feud with Donald Trump, declaring that the former U.S. president is “not a force for good” on the world stage.
Speaking during an interview with the BBC on Sunday, Khan said Trump’s recent return to frontline politics poses “serious risks” for international cooperation, climate policy, and democratic values.
“Whether it’s his stance on NATO, his approach to climate change, or his divisive rhetoric, Donald Trump has shown time and again that he is not a force for good,” Khan said. “We need leaders who bring people together, not drive them apart.”
The comments come days after Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, a summit critics claim showcased Trump’s susceptibility to flattery from authoritarian leaders. Khan, who has been one of Trump’s most outspoken critics in the UK, said the meeting reinforced concerns about Trump’s worldview.
Trump’s allies dismissed the remarks as political grandstanding. A spokesperson for the former president accused Khan of “trying to stay relevant” by attacking Trump, adding that Trump’s record on security and trade “speaks for itself.”
The feud between the two men dates back to Trump’s first term in office, when he clashed with Khan over immigration, terrorism, and the U.S. travel ban. Trump frequently used social media to attack the London mayor, who in turn condemned Trump’s policies as “toxic.”
With Trump’s influence once again shaping U.S. politics, Khan’s intervention reflects broader unease among European leaders about the direction of American foreign policy.
