Police reveal cause of death of ‘Russian spy whale’ in Norway
The death of the beluga whale, dubbed the "Russian spy whale" Hvaldimir, has been attributed to a bacterial infection, likely caused by a wound in its mouth. Norwegian police clarified that claims it had been shot were false, following an autopsy by the Veterinary Institute. The whale had been found floating in southern Norway in late August. Despite speculations about its possible military training, no foul play was involved, and there was no need for a criminal investigation into the death.
