Elephants swept away in popular Thailand animal sanctuary after floods
In Thailand, devastating floods have struck the famous Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, leaving more than 100 elephants in urgent need of evacuation. The sanctuary, located in the Mae Taeng district, was overwhelmed by flash floods after the Mae Taeng River overflowed due to heavy monsoon rains exacerbated by Typhoon Yagi. The park’s staff, along with volunteers, have been working tirelessly to rescue the elephants, dogs, and cats, moving them to higher ground. Tragically, an elephant carcass was found nearby, highlighting the severity of the disaster.
The flooding has not only impacted the sanctuary but also nearby communities, with hundreds of homes submerged. Efforts continue as rescuers and volunteers scramble to provide safe havens for the affected animals.
