Disjointed Chelsea labour to goalless draw with Crystal Palace

Chelsea’s stuttering start to the new Premier League season continued on Sunday as they were held to a frustrating 0–0 draw by Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.

Despite dominating possession for large spells, Mauricio Pochettino’s side lacked rhythm in attack and struggled to break down a resolute Palace defense marshalled by Marc Guéhi and Joachim Andersen. The Blues managed just two shots on target, with Nicolas Jackson squandering their best chance in the second half when his close-range effort was saved by Dean Henderson.

The result leaves Chelsea winless in their opening two fixtures, increasing pressure on Pochettino to find solutions to his side’s blunt attacking play. Several new signings, including young midfielder Estevão, looked short of cohesion, while senior players like Raheem Sterling and Enzo Fernández failed to provide a spark.

Palace, meanwhile, will take heart from a disciplined display. Under Oliver Glasner, the Eagles frustrated Chelsea with a compact shape and quick counters, with Eberechi Eze coming closest to snatching a shock winner late on.

“We need more sharpness, more consistency,” Pochettino admitted after the match. “The players are working hard, but we must improve quickly.”

The draw extends Chelsea’s run of disappointing results at home, with fans voicing frustration at the final whistle. Palace, by contrast, left Stamford Bridge with confidence, having shown once again they can hold their own against England’s elite.
